U13 Girls Field North Stars Bring home Provincial Silver!

The U13 Ron Hopper Real Estate North Stars entered the 2025 Provincial Championships as underdogs in the competitive U13B division—but they didn’t stay at the bottom for long.

The tournament kicked off Friday morning with a tough matchup against division leaders, the Kawartha team. Despite a strong effort, the North Stars fell 11–5. Goals came from Quinn Norton (2), Ireland Grimstead (1), Adele Ferguson (1), and Atayvia Jackson (1).

But the girls bounced back in the afternoon against the Mimico Mountaineers. With a 10–6 victory. Scorers included Quinn Norton (3), Atayvia Jackson (2), Avery Brooks (1), Isla McGregor (1), Keeva Fox (1), Adele Ferguson (1), and Molly Richardson (1).

Saturday morning’s quarter-final elimination game pitted the North Stars against St. Catharines. But this time, the North Stars came out ready to play. Excellent draw control and smart passing by Atayvia Jackson set up Quinn Norton for a spectacular 7-goal performance. Ferguson, Grimstead, and McGregor each added one, and goalie Isla Nickel stood tall with several key saves to help seal the 10–6 win.

In the Saturday semi-final against Orillia, the defense stepped up big, with Hanna Carr, Avery Brooks and Ireland Grimstead leading the way. Offensively, Norton notched another hat trick, with Brooks adding 2, and McGregor and Jackson each scoring 1. The 7–5 win was a thrilling upset.

Sunday’s Gold Medal Game, saw the North Stars once again face Kawartha. The girls led after the first quarter, but momentum shifted, and they ultimately fell 8–4. Norton scored a hat trick and Ferguson added one. Though it wasn’t the result they were hoping for, the team left the field with heads held high.

The North Stars’ success was fueled by the support of their coaching staff. Head Coach Adam Jackson led with calm guidance and belief in every player. Assistant Coach Cam Gateman brought positive energy and encouragement. Trainer Craig Matheson, Chris Carr, the team’s practice coach, and Rebecca Jackson, were essential to the team’s overall growth and success.

This U13 North Stars squad may have started the season as underdogs, but they finished it as Provincial U13B silver medalists.
